From drama to Cirque du Soleil: the new season at Teatro Rossetti

With the arrival of autumn, the Teatro Rossetti season in Trieste is ready to begin. The 2026-2027 programme runs from autumn to summer and brings around eighty titles spanning drama, musicals, dance and concerts: a wide-ranging line-up that brings together leading names from the Italian performing arts scene with internationally acclaimed events.

The drama season at the Teatro Rossetti

The season will officially open on 14 October with Le ultime lune by Furio Bordon, starring Alessandro Haber and directed by Paolo Valerio. A national premiere that sets the tone for a programme in which drama plays a central role, combining great classics with contemporary works.

Among the shows not to be missed are Non si sa come by Pirandello with Franco Branciaroli; People, Places and Things with Anna Ferzetti and directed by Pierfrancesco Favino; Orcolat ’76 with Simone Cristicchi, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Friuli earthquake; and Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher by Honegger, a new collaboration with the Teatro Lirico Verdi di Trieste.

Major musicals return to Trieste

For musical lovers, one of the most eagerly awaited events will arrive just before Christmas. From 16 to 22 December 2026, the Teatro Rossetti will host Notre Dame de Paris, Riccardo Cocciante’s celebrated musical based on Victor Hugo’s novel. Then, from 29 April to 9 May 2027, it will be the turn of The Phantom of the Opera, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical in the production directed by Federico Bellone. The show returns to Trieste after its great success in the city in 2023.

Also worth noting on the musical front are the classic A Christmas Carol, the show Gloria, built around the repertoire of Umberto Tozzi, Frida Opera Musical and Il ragazzo dai pantaloni rosa, the adaptation of the acclaimed Italian film.

Cirque du Soleil: the new show comes to Trieste

One of the most important events of the entire season, however, will take place outside the Rossetti itself. Following the success of Alegría: In A New Light, which attracted 72.000 spectators and set the attendance record for a live event in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Cirque du Soleil will return to Trieste from 24 June to 25 July 2027 with its new show, ECHO.

The Cirque du Soleil production combines acrobatics, elaborate sets, live music and visual theatre. At the centre of the show is a giant cube, which will be installed in the square in front of the Silos, just a short distance from Trieste Centrale railway station. Standing as high as a two-storey building, the cube rotates and moves within the performance space, becoming an integral part of the artists’ performances. The soundtrack, meanwhile, will be performed live by seven vocalists and multi-instrumentalists.

Trieste will be the show’s second Italian stop after Milan, where ECHO will make its European debut in May. For the city, it will be one of the most significant international events of summer 2027, with general ticket sales opening on 28 September 2026.
