Digital Art Gallery in Gorizia: an immersive experience near Trieste
Even if 2025 is now over, Gorizia will carry an important legacy from its experience as European Capital of Culture alongside Nova Gorica. As the final act of GO!2025, the city has inaugurated the Digital Art Gallery, or DAG, which has transformed the historic Galleria Bombi into Europe’s largest digital gallery. A curved LED Wall spanning 1.000 square metres and nearly 100 metres in length now offers a truly unmissable immersive experience, less than an hour from Trieste.
DAG in Gorizia: a historic tunnel reinvented by art
The new Digital Art Gallery breathes new life into a tunnel with nearly a century of history behind it. The Galleria Bombi in Gorizia was excavated from 1943 onwards, used as an air-raid shelter during the war, and completed in 1950. Its purpose was to connect two sides of the city by passing beneath the Castle, and that passageway remained an important symbol of unity even after Gorizia and Nova Gorica were divided by a border.
In 2025, the Galleria Bombi underwent an extensive restoration project, part-funded by the PNRR, which transformed the urban architecture into an immersive work of art. Of the tunnel’s roughly 300 metres in total length, 100 have been lined with LED Wall panels using a highly complex self-supporting structure – designed specifically to avoid any damage to the existing historic architecture.

“Data Tunnel” by Refik Anadol: the immersive landscape opening the Digital Art Gallery
The new gallery was inaugurated by Refik Anadol, one of the world’s most influential digital artists and a pioneer in the use of artificial intelligence in the arts. His installation transforms the tunnel into an immersive landscape in constant metamorphosis: shapes, pulses and natural textures come alive in real time as visitors pass through, as if it were a living organism.
At the heart of the work is an artificial intelligence model created by Anadol himself, the Large Nature Model, trained on millions of data points gathered from around the world to generate extraordinary visuals. The experience is made even more captivating by the soundscape, carefully crafted to deepen the sensory immersion.
